Stevington Parish Council wishes to advise residents that it has become necessary to postpone the previously announced temporary road closures scheduled from Monday 13th April to Saturday 30th April 2026.
The planned closures were required to allow essential repair works to The Cross historic monument, including the installation of safety measures, to protect the contractor while working within the carriageway.
However, upon implementing the traffic management arrangements, Bedford Borough Council have advised that there is insufficient road width available for the school bus to safely navigate the works area. Smaller buses cannot be put into service due to the number of pupils who need to travel and the route cannot be altered.
As a result, the Parish Council has no alternative to postponing the works until the summer school holidays when alternative arrangements will be sought to ensure both the safety of the contractor and the continued operation of essential services.
What This Means for Residents
- There will be no road closures at this time
- Traffic management measures will not be in place
- Bus services will continue to operate as normal
The Parish Council apologises for any inconvenience caused and appreciates residents’ understanding while efforts are made to safely carry out these important preservation works.
