Stevington Parish Council would like to make residents aware of forthcoming repair works to The Cross, one of the village's most important historic landmarks.
Bedford Borough Council has advised that essential repairs to the base of the monument will commence on Monday 29 June and are expected to take up to 15 working days to complete.
To enable the works to be carried out safely, temporary traffic management measures will be introduced within the village.
What Residents Need to Know
- Silver Street will be closed during the working period to provide a safe working area for contractors.
- Temporary three-way traffic signals will operate on Court Lane, Church Road and Park Road.
- Working hours will be restricted to 10.00am to 2.30pm, Monday to Friday.
- Outside these hours, roads will remain open and accessible as normal.
- The GP25 bus service through Stevington will be suspended between 10.00am and 2.30pm on weekdays while the works are taking place.
The reduced working hours have been agreed to minimise disruption to residents and to allow school transport services to continue operating as normal.
Preserving an Important Village Landmark
The Cross is a significant part of Stevington's heritage, and these repairs are necessary to ensure the long-term preservation of the monument. While some temporary inconvenience is unavoidable, the works will help safeguard this historic feature for future generations.
